About us
“I am passionate about providing evidence that FLOWpresso™ can help with our mental health and sleep crisis”
— Desiree De Spong, FLOWpresso Founder
The FLOW Story
Where it all began.
FLOWpresso was created in New Zealand, and designed by lymphatic specialist, Desiree De Spong. And here’s a little snippet of the journey.
Desiree was an early adopter of full body lymphatic therapy, along with a great understanding of the benefits of regulating the pressure/rhythm for lymphatic drainage. Desiree saw the life changing results lymphatic therapy can have for a variety of people. As a result of Desiree’s background in Eastern Philosophies, the importance of heat therapies and how it raises the core body temperature and encourages circulation was influential with the foundation of this technology. The combination of these two therapies was the starting point to create a technology with the ability to help people further.
Commence the research phase.
Desiree began a worldwide study of existing devices and started her research on the effects of different delivery methods. There were plenty of conversations, emails and productive late nights, but it was becoming very obvious to Desiree that with certain types of technology combined she could design a device that used several types of therapies all at once. Seeking advisory support internationally from medical professionals, research academics and engineers, Desiree was able to design an initial prototype which was manufactured in early 2019.
The prototype.
After a few short months, it was apparent that the “suit” (as we called it then) was having a major impact on sleep, stress and fatigue. After further studies saw improvements in people’s health recoveries, she knew she was on the right track. However, like all prototypes, it wasn’t perfect but it needed to be, so Desiree went back to the drawing board.
FLOWpresso graced the world.
After further conversations, emails and late nights, Desiree added new technology and upgrades until she knew it was the perfect version. It was in February 2020, that FLOWpresso was officially launched worldwide.
The support we received.
Thanks to New Zealand Trade and Enterprise for providing support and direction regarding governance and compliance. We are proud to receive an Export Accelerator Grant from Export New Zealand, and we’ve had numerous support and mentoring to develop FLOWpresso, so we can share it with the rest of the world.
What is FLOWpresso doing now?
FLOWpresso is now in multiple health clinics around the world, helping people in many different ways. For Desiree, this is a dream come true as she wants to be able to help as many people as she can. But like most other researchers, it doesn’t stop there.
We are currently underway with a large pilot trial with New Zealand Police, and have recently been awarded a Callaghan Fellowship Research Grant, to fund a student researching the effects FLOWpresso has on stress, fatigue and sleep.
Desiree continues to conduct research studies into the benefits of FLOWpresso, including how it can assist with the mental health and sleep crisis that exists in the world today, along with supporting people with their health and sport recovery. It is important to Desiree to provide evidence for these issues.
